Division Background and Goals

The Division of Clinical Operations is housed at OUDEM’s clinical training base, Hillcrest Medical Center (HMC). In HMC, OUDEM has found a Tulsa hospital partner – among the three outstanding facilities at which our residents rotate – with deep interest in, and ongoing support for, operation of a top-flight academic Emergency Department (ED).

The goal of the Operations group is to facilitate the smooth running of the HMC ED, at a challenging juncture. The ED of this 760-bed hospital has been overstretched by an annualized volume that can approach 60,000 visits/year. A larger new state-of-the-art ED with has finished the design stages and is on track for projected completion in mid-2012.

With the OUDEM’s clinical base situated at HMC for over a year, the Operations group has done an excellent job of transitioning a community-hospital setting to a truly academic environment. Evidence-based clinical pathways have been developed and promulgated (as depicted at this section’s end).
