Division Background and Goals



OUDEM physicians deploying with tactical teams will usually not be armed, but training such as this approach breeds familiarity with both equipment and tactics that will be used in tactical situations.

The OUDEM Division of EMS works to advance the art and science of the practice of EMS medicine at agency, city, regional, state, national, and international levels. Drawing on expertise gained through years of experience as well as completion of EMS fellowships (2 OUDEM faculty have served as EMS fellows), the EMS Division efforts include: 

  1. Medical oversight with an emphasis on direct day-to-day involvement of the physician medical directors in both ground and air medical services.
  2. Development of evidence-based medical protocols for statewide usage.
  3. Continuing education featuring nationally renowned guest faculty.
  4. Special operations medical oversight and support, including affiliations with multiple law enforcement tactical medical teams.
